THOUGHTS AND WORDS carry greater weight this week, making our intentions and level of awareness all-important. The strongest impact is on Wednesday, when a Mercury-Pluto alignment in Capricorn increases our ability to focus on the goal but also potentially sharpens the tongue. In our single-minded attention, we need to be careful about our means to achieving the desired end.
This week is a powerful time to launch a new endeavor, fueled by this Mercury-Pluto alignment and also supported by the lunar cycle, which is in the process of building to the Full Moon/Total Lunar Eclipse on January 31.
THE FOUR DAYS from Wednesday through Sunday are pivotal in whatever processes or projects are underway, since the Moon will be in its First Quarter phase. These days represent a time of potential crisis, when our intentions for this lunar cycle are challenged in some way.
The Moon is in Taurus as it squares the Sun on Wednesday, indicating that our First Quarter challenge relates to a conflict between the need for comfort, familiarity, and stability (Moon in Taurus) and the urge for progress, innovation, and change (Sun in Aquarius). These are both fixed signs, meaning that we'll need to overcome a certain level of stubborn "this is the way I want it" or "this is the way we've always done it" attitudes if we are going to find higher-level solutions to the challenge.
Throughout the four days of this First Quarter phase, pay special attention to what still needs to be cleared for your intentions to find success, as well as what actions you need to take to help your projects gain stronger footing.
AFTER ITS RENDEZVOUS with Pluto on Wednesday, Mercury wanders a varied terrain for the rest of the week. On Thursday, the Messenger Planet has a pleasant visit with Jupiter that helps us find some of the solutions we're looking for, and encourages us to envision positive outcomes.
Friday and Saturday look more contentious, as Mercury first squares Eris and then Uranus. These aspects indicate divisions and disagreements that could derail best-laid plans, but also might provide the incentive to think further outside the box. By Sunday, a Mercury-Chiron aspect provides opportunities for healing rifts through opening our hearts in awareness of a shared humanity.
ADDING to the Aquarian urge to strike out into new territory, Mars enters adventurous Sagittarius on Friday. This is a bit like putting high-quality running shoes on an already-elite and eager athlete who has been slogging through deep swamps (Scorpio) since December 9.
Mars will be in Sag for the next seven weeks. During this time, we'll be moving quickly, but will need to be cautious of doing so without first planning our route, since some roads are circular and merely lead us back to where we started. But since Sag is an optimistic sign and willing to take risks, we should start to feel somewhat lighter of foot and heart once Mars is fully immersed in the sign.
AS WE MOVE through this week and its array of planetary aspects, it's important to remember that we're now in eclipse season! That means that the effects of next week's Total Lunar Eclipse are already seeping into our awareness and experience.
More about the Lunar Eclipse in next week's Journal, of course -- but in the meantime, consider that the upcoming January 31 and February 15 eclipses are bookends to the two eclipses that occurred last August. This means that they are occurring at similar degrees of the zodiac, and so re-stimulating themes that were initiated back then.
With this in mind, it is opportune to review what happened last August, and to observe how circumstances have unfolded since then. As our first two eclipses of 2018 take form, we should see further developments relating to those issues that first came into our awareness six months ago.
IF YOU MISSED my recent class covering the first six months of 2018, there's still time to partake! The audio replay, along with a pdf of the slideshow and calendars that I created for the class, are available for purchase.
IF YOUR BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEEK: Your thoughts and words have great impact this year. It will be vital to harness this intellectual and verbal power and put it to good use toward goals and projects that you not only feel passionate about, but that you know will contribute to the greater well-being. Along the way, you will no doubt run into those who hold contrary -- and equally strong -- opinions. Try to use these exchanges to broaden your own understanding of the issues and to help you think in more expansive ways about how to realize your dream.
In light,
Pam
