Conclusion
To sum things up, the North Node's transit through the sign of Gemini will have us questioning our prejudices and biases, becoming more curious about and willing to listen to the people around us and find some common ground. We are learning how to adapt, how to be more flexible, more open-minded. Less dogmatic, less self-centered, less self-righteous. Our communication skills are improving. Likewise, we are focused less on faraway big ideas and focused more on what we can do for the people in our local communities. We are learning how to better appreciate the people around us, no matter what their differences from us may be. We're All in This Together: How the North Node in Gemini Will Affect Your Sign
by KAITLYN MAURA 17 days ago in ASTRONOMY
O
On May 5th, after transiting the signs of Cancer and Capricorn since November 2018, the North and South Nodes of the Moon will be moving into the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius respectively. They will stay there until January 2022. Here's what to expect, both in general and for YOUR sign.
What Exactly Are the Nodes?
The North and South Nodes are not planets but mathematical points at which the orbit of the Moon intersects with the ecliptic. The North Node is where the Moon moves into the northern ecliptic hemisphere while the South Node is where the Moon moves into the southern ecliptic hemisphere. They are always in opposite signs of the zodiac.
Astrologically, these points represent our karma and destiny. The South Node represents your karma, things you're familiar with, where you're coming from and what you need to let go of. The North Node represents your destiny, things you are unfamiliar with, where you are going and what you need to grow. They are associated with reincarnation and past lives, though you don't necessarily have to belief in these things (personally I do) to see their effect. The Nodes are very spiritual points representing your life's purpose and in my opinion, the most fascinating and important parts of a person's natal chart. In my opinion, you could tell a person's whole life story (or at least the essence of it) just by looking at the North and South Node and the aspects they make to other planets.
North Node in Gemini, South Node in Sagittarius
The North Node in Cancer taught us the importance of taking a step back from our professional lives to care for and nurture ourselves and the people we love. Meanwhile, the South Node in Capricorn helped expose the flaws and corruption of a society that values profits over people. What can we expect to learn from the North Node's transit into Gemini?
Gemini is the sign of the twins, a mutable air sign ruled by the planet Mercury. Gemini is all about communication with others. As the sign of the twins, it is also about flexibility, versatility, and diversity. As an air sign, Gemini is curious and intellectual, learning through it's interactions with others. Gemini placements are skilled at the art of conversation and tact. They are able to think logically and objectively, putting their own prejudice and bias aside, and considering the facts first, so that they can actually learn something. They are easily able to understand multiple perspectives, and adapt themselves accordingly, finding common ground with people from all walks of life.
Sagittarius, on the other hand, is the sign of the centaur or archer, a mutable fire sign ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion. Sagittarius rules over travel (especially long journeys), higher education, and philosophy. Sagittarius placements are known for their rigid set of principles, and a brutal honesty that is often socially uncouth. While Sagittarius placements, like Gemini, are explorers, they are almost always in search of some all-encompassing universal truth. Their idea of "universal truth," often changes, but whatever it is at the moment, whatever ideology they're currently crusading for, they will defend it with righteous zealotry. Their "big picture think," often lends itself to a tendency to generalize and make assumptions, speaking with an arrogant sense of self-righteousness before understanding all the facts. Sagittarius is half-human but it is also half-animal, and Sagittarius also has an animalistic and egocentric side that should not be looked over; fun-loving, pleasure-seeking, but also angry and temperamental. This can lend itself to hypocrisy; preaching one thing and practicing another.
With the South Node in Sagittarius, travel may decrease, as we’re currently seeing with the COVID-19 crisis, but the North Node in Gemini will inspire us to form better relationships with our local communities. While the borders have closed and the airlines have virtually been shut down, people are coming together as a community. While schools have been closed, and businesses shut down, mutual aid groups have arisen to help people with the things they need, whether that be with grocery deliveries, childcare, or medical supplies, without depending on government or big institutions. The shutdown of businesses, and the time spent at home, is definitely an example of the North Node in Cancer in action, but this time spent in isolation has made many of us realize the true value of human connection, whereas before we would have taken it for granted. People are saying they're spending more time socializing and connecting with others - talking with friends through Zoom calls, the phone or social media - than they ever had before this social distancing was put in place.
Gemini is a social sign, and I think when the North Node moves into Gemini, people will be able to start moving out and about again. Gemini also rules the lungs, the organ primarily affected by COVID-19, so I think by then, the virus will be on the decline. This transition will be very slow, of course; I am by absolutely no means saying that the virus will somehow magically disappear and everybody will be able to go back to work again, on May 5th, when the North Node transitions from 0 degrees Cancer to Gemini at 29 degrees. But what I am saying is that even when the virus and all the social barriers put in place disappear, this new way of looking at socializing will not. When the North Node enters into Gemini, we'll be making new connections and valuing our friendships like never before.
Partisan politics and dogmatic viewpoints have only gotten more and more extreme over the years. People on all sides of the political spectrum have been doxxed, shunned and cancelled, from their respective ideological groups, for having only a slight digression in perspective, even if that perspective comes from valuable personal experience. But our current situation has, to some extent, broken that down. Some populations, of course, are being more effected by it than others, and I think that puts into perspective the structural imbalances of power and resources highlighted by the South Node in Capricorn, but to some extent, this crisis is affecting us all. This isn't a national crisis; it's affecting everybody world-wide, and just by that very fact alone, I think more people are focusing on what we have in common rather than what keeps us apart.
First and foremost, however, I believe this transit will have many of us questioning our belief systems. We're learning to rid ourselves of bias and prejudice. We're learning to think for ourselves. Certain ideas and principles have been handed down to us through tradition, or fed to us by our current society and media, but just because an idea is popular or accepted doesn't necessarily mean it's true or useful to us in any way. This transit will help us to figure out what it is we really believe, what it is that we truly value.
The North Node in Gemini and South Node in Sagittarius will not only have us reexamining our belief systems but it will also have us reexamining the way we communicate and interact with others. Because it coincides with Venus's station retrograde, the very beginning of this transit will have us reexamining our intimate relationships especially. But in general, we are learning how to be more tactful and considerate of others, while also being honest. Because good communication skills don't just involve talking, and preaching, but listening as well.
It's a time for exploration. We will do well in this time if we remain curious and open-minded; listening to each other and learning. We can't be blinded by ideology, we need to listen to the facts, trust our experiences and listen to other people's experiences as well.
I've noticed a trend in our society where people who are confident and decisive are trusted more due to the strength of their conviction, even if their decisions and convictions are usually wrong, with no facts to back it up. People are more likely to doubt and underestimate those who take time to think things through and consider the facts, even when they most usually end up being right. But that should be changing now... we're learning how to think things through before we act.
The old world values are falling apart. The accepted norms handed down to us by society are no longer normal. The system is falling apart, no longer working, and instead of depending on government, big business, organized religion or any institutionalized system, we're learning how to depend on each other.
Horoscopes
Now it's time to see how it will affect your sign. I suggest reading the horoscope for your ascendant or rising sign, first, instead of the sun. I find the rising sign horoscope to be more accurate than the sun, as these horoscopes are based on the houses. If you don't know your rising sign, click here to generate a birth chart. Yes, you will need your birth time for this. If you don't have your birth time, Sun sign horoscopes are the next best thing.
People with angles or personal planets, or your own North and South Nodes, in the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) will most especially be affected by this transit. If you have angles, personal planets or nodes in any of the other air and fire signs (Aries, Leo, Libra, Aquarius) you may also be heavily affected by this transit.
Aries
Ever feel like you've spent your life searching and searching for something you just can't find? Say goodbye to distant travels, Aries, and say hello to the bright and beautiful world that is right before your eyes. With North Node in your 3rd house, you'll find that there is so much to learn, simply by staying put and talking to the people around you. With the South Node in your 9th house, you are learning to question your prejudices and become more open-minded. Thinking for yourself. This will not only expand your mind, but also help you with your communication skills and form better connections with others as well.
Taurus
The North Node is entering your 2nd house, the house of money and possessions but also the house of values. South Node is in your 8th house, the house of other people's resources, also the house of sex, transformation and death. You love luxury, Taurus, and with South Node in your 8th house, no more leeching off other people for it will only end up backfiring. You're also letting go of beliefs that no longer serve you. You're making money for yourself, using your intellectual, creative and social abilities, and instead of being stubborn and clinging to your possessions or wealth, you're learning how to be more generous towards others. With the Gemini in your 2nd house, you're also learning how to speak up about your values as well as your material needs.
Gemini
With North Node in your 1st house, you're learning how to think for yourself or no, you're Gemini, you already know how to think for yourself, but you're learning how to better express and communicate your ideas with confidence. With the South Node in Sagittarius transiting through your 7th house, you may have in the past looked to other people to give you confidence, depending on validation from other people, but now, you are learning that true confidence comes from within. Your beliefs and ideas don't necessarily need to have support from others to be valid or correct. Likewise, you're breaking free from relationships with partners who are preachy, arrogant or who treat your thoughts with condescension. If single, or dating, you may find yourself in a karmic relationship with someone who is like this. On the other hand, you could also meet a soulmate who brings you out of this. But more than that, you're discovering your own identity apart from what others think of you. Gemini is the sign of the twins, so you may be unsure of who you are at times, but sometimes that can be an identity in itself.
Cancer
When reflecting on possible meanings, the first two words that popped into my mind are "mental health." The South Node is transiting your 6th house, Cancer, which is the house of health and disease. You're letting go of things that make you sick, as well as things that overwork you. Do you ever feel like you're always on the go? The North Node in the 12th house is asking you to spend some time alone, focusing on things that nourish your mind and soul. Think: reading, and writing, writing, and reading, and more writing. Find some time to journal and focus on that which is it that you really think deep down, away from all the ideological clutter pushed on to you.
Leo
With the Gemini North Node in your 11th house, it is time to get out there and make some new friends! Make connections with people, put yourself out there, and of course nurture the connections you already have. Your confidence is admirable, Leo, and will help you make friends easily, but I'm sorry to say, you can be a little full of yourself sometimes, which unfortunately, can push people away. I'm sorry to say it, Leo, but you can at times, be a little too egocentric in your opinions. As a fixed fire sign, you can be stubborn in your worldview refuting anything that conflicts with your own experience; sometimes your opinions can form the basis of your identity and you can explode at anyone who disagrees, taking it personally. The Sagittarius South Node in your 5th house is asking you to move away from that. Talk to people, listen to them. Listen to others with an open mind, even if their experiences are different than yours are, and use that confidence of yours to stand up for and inspire your community!
Virgo
The Gemini North Node is transiting your 10th house, the house of career and public image. You are being asked to network, Virgo. Put yourself out there, speak up. Branch out. Perhaps, you've been a homebody, perhaps your bluntness, sarcastic sense of humor, and judgement has pushed other people away at times, and prevented you from succeeding in the way that you want. You're learning to use your social skills to further your success. Not in a dishonest way, or even a selfish way, but you are realizing that your material or social success does depend on your relationships with other people. We are social animals, interdependent on one another, and you won't get anywhere from hiding away from the world. On another note, with the Sagittarius South Node in your 4th house, you could also be moving away from family values and traditions that are not useful to you, moving away from prejudices that have been internalized due to your upbringing, separating the true from the false.
Libra
I know you love to talk, Libra, but the Sagittarius South Node in your 3rd house is asking you not to talk before knowing all the facts. The Gemini North Node in the 9th house is asking you to open up your mind. You're becoming more curious about the world around you, doing your research, studying, maybe even traveling. In any case, instead of forming opinions based on knee-jerk reactions to articles on Facebook, or things your friends say, you're digging deeper, questioning your beliefs and finding the facts to back them up.
Scorpio
You can be stubborn, Scorpio, and also quite secretive. Sagittarius is an expansive sign, always wanting more and more, and with the Sagittarius South Node in your 2nd house, you're being asked not to be so greedy with your possessions. The Gemini North Node in your 8th house is asking you to be more generous, more giving. But it's not just about money, Scorpio. You're also being asked to open up to others, emotionally. I know this is hard for you, Scorpio, but by sharing your secrets with others, you may just find healing, and transformation.
Sagittarius
You have an expansive and personality, Sagittarius. Your charisma, optimism and amazing sense of humor can light up a room. However, often being the loudest person in the room, you sometimes have a tendency to overlook others. Lacking a filter, you can sometimes be unaware of how your words affect other people, and sometimes, you can simply be self-involved, not even realizing when someone else is trying to get a word in edgewise. The Gemini North Node is transiting your 7th house asking you to be more considerate of other people. Communication doesn't just involving speaking up; it also involves actively listening to other people. This transit is asking you to think before you speak and be more in tune with the reactions of the people around you. Since the 7th house is also the house of marriage and romantic relationships, you may find a new partner during this transit, one who opens your mind and leads you in a more spiritual direction. This transit often brings about the meeting of soulmates, or fated relationships.
Capricorn
You're not the most social of the signs, Capricorn. Often you can spend so much time working that you neglect your relationships with other people. With the Sagittarius South Node transiting your 12th house, you're being asked to move out of your shell. You can be a hermit sometimes, Capricorn. If you've been spending a lot of time alone in your room, studying, or researching, or even doing spiritual work, the Gemini North Node in your 6th house is asking you to return to the world so you can share this knowledge with others.
Aquarius
The Gemini North Node in your 5th house is asking you to be more creative. You're a very social person, Aquarius, always out and about, always on the go. But what is it that actually brings you joy? The Sagittarius South Node in your 11th house is asking that instead of expanding your circle of friends, your focus should be on nurturing the ones you already have; pay attention to quality, not quantity.. Instead of living vicariously through your friends and depending them for your happiness , you're doing things yourself, discovering who you are at your deepest core. On the other hand, you may be figuring out what you truly value in your friendships, what kinds of friends make you the most happiest, limiting your social circle to those friendships that are most authentic. You are being creative and sharing your ideas with the world.
Pisces
You're known for dreaming big, Pisces. Instead of tiring yourself out, working endlessly to achieve those impossible goals, the North Node in Gemini is asking you to focus more on what's close to home, and the little things that are within your reach. You're an escapist, Pisces. For you, the grass is always greener on the other side. Wherever you are at the moment, you'd rather be some place else. But the North Node is transiting your 4th house, asking you to stay present. You've spent so much time chasing after illusions and searching for things you'll never find that you've neglected to see that the dream was already there, right before your eyes. Focus on your relationships and connections with the people around you; communicate with them, because when you're always itching to be somewhere else, do something else, with someone else, you may just find yourself in the middle of nowhere, stranded alone, doing nothing.
You have until January 18th, 2022, when the North Node enters into Taurus, to learn these lessons.
